Centre for Sport

The Centre for Sport was funded by Sports Lottery (via Sport England), a City Council Regeneration Fund and the Local Education Authority. It was opened in 2001 but hasn't been without complications and we now boast a fabulous new sports hall. The Centre for Sport is not a traditional Sports Centre. It also includes a private partnership with 'Soccer World', who run the football and bar facilities for the Centre. The Centre provides community access throughout the week for the West End population. The Centre's philosophy is to increase participation from West End communities in sport and physical activity. The activities offered include participation in sport, access to courses to become qualified coaches, volunteering and opportunities to develop skills in all elements of the sports and leisure industry. The Centre for Sport is committed to creating sports clubs and teams, based at the centre, offering local residents a chance to compete at the highest possible level. We currently have Trampolining, Basketball, Hockey, Badminton, Netball, Table Tennis, Judo and Karate clubs. All offer opportunities for male, female, adult and junior development. All the clubs have support and benefit of the centre’s experienced staff, who assist in clubs' development by making links for new players, helping with fund raising and giving clubs a positive direction. Playing or helping with a club team is extremely rewarding and it may even lead to a paid employment in something you really enjoy. If you would like to get involved with any of our clubs, either as a coach or a volunteer, or just want to play, please let us know and we will be delighted to help you out.
