At Newburn Activity Centre we have onsite, a fifteen metre indoor climbing wall with extensive use of Rockworks real form. The climbing wall consists of several lead walls, a bouldering area and the facilities to set up abseils and teach the use of belay points.
The Newburn Wall provides challenging indoor climbs for all abilities and age groups on realistic
real-form surfaces. Its highest point measures 12.5 meters with multi-pitch and lead climb routes
enhanced by natural features of ledges, cracks and overhangs. There are thirteen graded routes that are changed every four months providing all year round challenges. Ropes are insitu and are complimented with six automatic belay devices that allow the single climber access. Harness, boots and helmets can be hired and chalk bags and chalk can be purchased. As well as accessing the wall as an individual, we can provide group instruction and improve the novice climbers skills with ‘learn the rope’ courses.

There is an extensive range of equipment for use as well as coaching and instruction from our qualified staff. It is our intention to begin to provide competence based training as well as single pitch award training.
Junior Climbing
Book onto course sessions with alternating Saturdays 9.30-11.00 8-11 years, 11.30- 1.00 12 -16 years.
Trips away competitions and visit to other walls arranged.
Inductions and Courses
Red point/auto belay inductions are available depending on staff availability. Once inducted we issue a card that you can use to book session's up to seven days in advance. Bookings taken now for “Learn the ropes” courses: Saturday/Sunday afternoons – 3 sessions over a 6 week period. Places must be booked beforehand.
Novice Climbing
Tuesdays and Fridays 5pm -7pm expert tuition and advice using our automatic belay devices.
Climbing Times and Prices
Monday–Friday 9.30am–10.00pm, last admission at 8.00pm. Saturday and Sunday 9.30 am–5.00pm, last admission 3.00pm.
Prices: First visit £10.00 includes £6.00 affiliation and registration fee.
Thereafter £4.00 for up to two hours.
Equipment Hire (subject to availability)
Shoes: £2.50 Harness: £2.50.
